Jupiter moved into Sagittarius today. Jupiter is a social planet, outside of our personal boundaries, and brings like-minded groups together. With Jupiter changing signs into its home sign, this brings an openness to new opportunities and expands your optimism. Issues in the Sagittarius areas of your chart seem to be opening up and going well. Jupiter opens your awareness through these opportunities that come in these areas of your chart as well, so you may generally be more positive here than negative.
While you may think Jupiter is Sagittarius is automatically great for all Sagittarians or your Sagittarius planets, there are several mitigating factors to be aware of. High hopes do not always mean getting everything you want, and not getting what you think you want is sometimes an even better learning experience.
While there is a freeing up of the need to dig deep and feel intensely as you reached out (or retreated) while Jupiter was in Scorpio, the overall tone with this transit is the focus on beliefs and philosophies. It’s hard to go anywhere these days without hearing some political topic being spoken about or debated. Jupiter also can bring out overly boisterous opinions and views to individuals and groups that band together. So depending on your relationship to the topic of the day and whether it fuels you or drains you, this transit can have a variety of effects. Be aware of your personal needs; to participate or not, within the public displays that come your way.
Astrological charts with other fire planets and/or angles, (in trine aspect) can seem to have the most beneficial opportunities fall in their laps now. These can always be mitigated by other harder alignments in the chart.
So what can go wrong? For starters, Jupiter has been in good aspect to Saturn all the while it was passing through Scorpio the past year or so. This was positive for drive and follow through on a course of action.
Jupiter will, in a few months, be making a square to Neptune (fantasy, vision and dreams). This brings up the idea of making dreams a reality in a big way. You’ll need to do a reality check with what you are actually doing to make your dreams happen or see if your ideas are not possible to carry out. Start testing your goals now to see if your vision can be concretely manifested or you may find you are wasting your time.
Where is Jupiter in your chart now, and what aspects is it making by progression or solar arc and how is it triggering your inner and outer life? If you want a current map as well as one for the months ahead, contact me for a personal reading and we will go over the best times to use Jupiter’s transits as well as all the other planets’ moves to optimize your efforts.
This year from October 5th to November 15th Venus will be retrograde from 11° Scorpio to 25° Libra. What does it mean when Venus is retrograde? Venus stands for love, values and pleasures. Love can be harder to come by either romantically or with friendships, and the inflow of money can slow down. Now is also the time for review of what you value in closeness with others as well as your worth for your work. During this part of Venus’ cycle, old loves or friends either come back into your life to be reassessed or finally dismissed.
Things/people come back:
- Old loves
- Friends and people from the past
- Objects we lost may now be found
What to do when these things return?
- Reassess who the person/object is and decide what relevant value they had in your life. Now is a good time to appreciate what you learned or gained from the relationship. Resolve the past, let it go, and move on. On occasion, this cycle can bring back a relationship that will remain in your life – but that would depend on numerous factors being present in your chart.
What not to do when these things return?
- Do not get attached to the past – this is a cycle for review.
A New Relationship?
This Venus retrograde begins in Libra, the sign of balance, justice and relationships. This is an ideal time for things to be evened out and put back into proper balance in relationships with others. With a new love, the retrograde Venus will likely have the new love only present part of the picture when around you or communicating with you. This may not be deliberate – but you still will not see the entire scenario in which you may be getting involved. You will not see their entire motivation, nor know the safety of the situation. This includes intimacy – you don’t know the person’s past yet, or who they fully are, so play it safe and wait.
This is not the time to make a big purchase – because if you are impulsive, you will spend more than necessary, and may regret the purchase later. Objects of art, a new home, anything to do with décor or beautifying yourself (haircut/color, cosmetic surgery etc.) will all not turn out as planned. Either more research needs to be done on your part, or the information you are getting is not complete. You may have a different aesthetic than the person selling you the surgery, the haircut or that new iPhone – so you will need to be cautious. I knew someone who went into a photo shoot and the photographer decided to touch-up all the photos before showing them to the client. The photographer made the client look 18 when they were 40, so none of the photos could be used! Different aesthetic = expensive lesson. Another person bought an apartment during the retrograde, and it wasn’t until the sale was nearly complete and the scaffolding came down across the street that they saw their view was a real eyesore – a hot pink awning. They ultimately did not complete the sale and lost most of their deposit.
The fortunate part of Venus Retrograde –
In purchases, often at this time, someone needs to sell something to make money fast and you have the opportunity to buy the item at a much reduced price! Someone gets the short end of the stick.. so let it be the ‘other’ person! It is a good time to go to estate sales, yard sales, and sales in general. As long as you heed the advice that you may buy something and change your mind once you get it home, and do not overspend, you can get some great buys during Venus retrograde.
Other things you can expect are for money to be delayed that you are counting on, or surprises with money and partnerships. Review what you value and your personal values during this cycle. You may find a job is not up to the same level as your more confident self-view at this time. If that is the case, look for a better job. The same goes for relationships. While fighting during this retrograde may seem productive, find out where you may not be feeling valued in the relationship and communicate that and make alterations. Try not to be secretive, as Venus is in Scorpio for much of this retrograde and that makes us want to hide our deeper feelings.
Unsure of a new love? Think you should break up? Get a new job? What does it mean if Venus is going to ‘station on a planet or angle of your chart? A professional look at your chart can clarify in what area(s) exactly what is happening in your life with the Venus retrograde. Contact me and let’s see whether Cupid or Venus Retrograde is bringing in new or old loves into your life.
A look at some of the outer planets to plan your fall trajectory.
What to look out for –
Jupiter is now traveling direct in Scorpio – so those with planets or points in this sign, or trine or sextile Scorpio – as in the water and earth signs, should be getting new opportunities and feeling positive about the future. A sense of optimism comes with Jupiter transits, so also look to the house where Jupiter is transiting. Jupiter enters its home sign of Sagittarius on November 8th where abundance and expansion in all things that broaden our lives and open our minds will start to come about.
Saturn, the builder, is now moving direct as well. Saturn structures our lives by pushing us to make thorough preparations for success. The direct motion of Saturn also assists with projects that were held up from progressing this summer.
October 6th Venus, planet of love and money, will go retrograde. What to do: resolve issues from a past romance, rekindle with an old love, find accounting errors and collect past due monies. What not to do: start a new romance, make large purchases such as an apartment, piece of art etc., do not try a new hairstyle as your stylist will have a different aesthetic than you do, same with cosmetic surgery. Only corrective surgery may be warranted. Photo shoots are also not recommended during this time for the same reason as the photographer will have a different perspective what looks good. Venus retrograde lasts until Nov. 16th and leaves the shadow on Dec. 10th.
On October 8th, we finally leave the shadow of the draining Mars retrograde from this summer. Scroll down to my How To Use Mars retrograde article from a couple months back to see if your experiences mirrored those described in my article. Projects that you may have been working on tirelessly are finally able to move forward with greater momentum now. Start to take action, but the real push will be most productive after the 8h of October.
Looking ahead to Nov. 8th, Uranus goes back into Aries where it will finally make its last station in that sign the first week of 2019. This should be your final call to straighten out any chaotic or disruptive circumstances or relationships, and to re-focus on your personal needs in whichever area of your chart where Aries is. If you don’t have your chart or can’t read it, contact me for a personal forecast with all the planets, return and retrogrades etc. affecting your chart for the coming year.
Mars will station to travel retrograde on June 26th – and return to direct motion on August 28th. There are always times astrologically when it is more beneficial to take action, and other times when it is more prudent to hold back and revise your plans. Most understand a Mercury retrograde. The differences here are the repercussions of impulsive actions during a Mars retrograde can trip us up causing us to really louse up our future. The summer Ingress chart also has a number of confrontational opposition aspects that can make it more difficult to hold back when you feel strongly about or are frustrated over something. See the Ingress chart above with Venus opposing Mars (relationship stresses) on the Nodal axis (fated contacts and opportunities), Mercury opposing Pluto (Mental obsessiveness and power plays) as well as the extremely limiting Sun Saturn opposition right across the Ascendant/ Descendant Axis.
What can happen if you take rash actions or exert on Mars Rx:
Cause a war to break out
Create arguments and rifts
Injure yourself, or your head
Hurt feelings and alienating others
Exhaust your body
What To Do on Mars Rx:
Reformulate plans and strategies
Go back to an action that was shelved
Rest more and Rehabilitate
Approach conflict with a cool head
Listen to others’ opinions (and politics) objectively
With these basic cautions out of the way, you will also need to know in which house or houses of your chart Mars will be going retrograde. The 4th house – you may redecorate and/or resolve deep seated family issues. With the 2nd house, your focus may be on finances, values or possessions. Take it slowly as Mars retrograde won’t really allow you to push through abruptly.
Mars will station to travel retrograde on June 26th at 9 Aquarius 13 – and return to direct motion on August 28th at 28 Capricorn 36. These degrees become extremely important if the Mars stations are conjunct a planet or angle of your chart.
You can really precipitate a desired outcome by plotting out objectively (Aquarius) how you want to handle issues that have long been a permanent hardship (Capricorn) and come out with an entirely new outlook and path if handled well.
If you’d like a concise overview of your personal trajectory through your chart during this period, contact me by June 30th and we can schedule a short phone call for 1/3 the cost of a full reading. We will go over how the Mars Rx will personally affect you within your natal, progressed and directed charts and some strategies for making the best progress during this period as well as how to avoid the pitfalls.
The new moon on Tuesday May 15th brings in the new impulse for the month and a new set of priorities in the house where it transits for years to come as Uranus enters Taurus for the next 8 years. The degree of this new moon – late in Taurus at 24° Taurus 38’ lies on Fixed Star Alcyone within the Star grouping known as the Pleaides or The Weeping Sisters. These were the Sisters Zeus took pity on and moved to the sky as they mourned the loss of their family. The literal interpretation of weeping over family losses may apply here, the Pleaides also has to do with gaining knowledge and wisdom – and often these come about through pain and suffering. The fixed star within this grouping, and at the center of it, is Alcyone which relates to the strength of femininity but also to falls from grace. For New Yorkers, we witnessed the strength of some women coming forward leading to the Attorney General’s recent fall from grace. With Mars at the very last degree of Capricorn as well right now, issues regarding achieving and status have reached a critical point. Either you get there the right way or you may have set yourself up for a fall.
Mars squares Uranus just before Uranus changes signs and moves into Taurus. This is felt as a final opportunity to break from habit patterns, restrictive situations or relationships. As Uranus changes signs from Aries into Taurus, we take a fresh look at our value systems and our relationship to money. The influence of Uranus is to break through patterns that have limited us. Often there are sudden insights allowing us to see how we have functioned in a static way in whatever sector of our charts Uranus is transiting. There will be reversals – and while some will experience positive change, the rule with Uranus is “expect the unexpected”. What would most surprise you in these areas? Have you been clinging to unexamined beliefs about money, money-making, possessions or your personal values? You may be surprised at where this Uranus journey takes you. It is bound to bring change, and a bit of shock along the way.
The outer planets Saturn and Pluto are still retrograde. Read my blog below this one for more on these retrogrades which always relate to humanity moving on an inward trajectory to straighten its course. And as always, if you would like to know how these and many other personal astrological influences are affecting your chart, contact me for an update.
Saturn & Pluto Retrograde April 2018
Yes, spring is here, and you’d better get set to make some high priority goals sooner than later. Why? Because the upcoming planet transits are better suited to go back to define and refine prior projects and your self than to forge ahead with something new.
Life has a forward then backwards then forwards movement. If we align ourselves with the Cosmos, there is a flow of being in the moment and not fighting what ‘is’. We are now right in the middle of Mercury retrograde, when communications, dealings, paperwork and decisions all need careful consideration and attention so projects don’t go awry. Double check your work and appointments and all should be fine. But just as Mercury stations to go Direct, that is when we tend to overlook things in our rush to get back to our normal breakneck pace. Additionally we have just begun to leave a conjunction of Mars (assertiveness, aggression, will) with Saturn (restriction, authority, control). Whether this related to long hours on a project, heavy physical labor, or being at odds with a boss or co-worker, today we finally began to move out of this tension ridden transit.
In terms of retrograde motion though, this month, we will feel a direct push-back from the Universe as Saturn and Pluto, two of the heavy outer planet influences, start their retrogrades on April 18th and 22nd respectively. What this means is, those issues that have been coming up for you personally as well as globally go into deep rectification mode. Saturn rules over our social rules and structure. Just when we thought it had reached a crescendo, the #TimesUp movement and disclosure will spread further into other professional fields. This movement is barely in its infancy in terms of setting straight the centuries of imbalance between the sexes. On a personal level with Saturn, what are the obligations you dutifully keep and how do these fit or no longer fit your true purpose? Making the right choice in these matters is now up to you, so navigate deliberately. Many obligations are continually pursued, contrary to our best interest, out of pure habit. We can no longer afford to have our attention scattered in this manner. Give up beating that dead horse and what you’ve already accomplished and move on to your soul’s true calling.
As for Pluto, also soon retrograding in Capricorn, this relates to the unearthing of long hidden power imbalances used personally and with others. This is similar to the patriarchal upending we’ve been seeing in the film industry, and is now due in areas relating to global power structures (trade) and imbalances between nations. The crescendo of these influences will be seen with the triple conjunction of Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn in Feb. of 2020. So this is a prelude, a set-up, to get as much aligned as possible before that time. Personally – whatever house Pluto is transiting in your natal chart is in need of refinement, fine tuning and re-establishment of proper use of power. Pluto gets rid of what is no longer necessary or no longer working for our evolution.
See the chart at the top of this blog. In the bottom house (4th house) is where you will find Saturn and Pluto showing as retrograde. In between them is Mars. This is known as beseiged.. or afflicted, unable to move. This is a very uncomfortable position and not a good time to push forward aggressively, or lash out unconsciously with temper or physical exertion. This position says pull back, withdraw, contain, reassess and wait. We are here now – and when Mars steps out from this configuration, all hell can break loose personally and worldwide with political actions. Get your priorities and especially your health in order for when this, and the Mars retrograde coming up this summer take place (more on the Mars retrograde next time).
Is the Saturn, besieged Mars and Pluto in your 3rd house? How do you use your speech and everyday thought patterns to achieve your ends? Is your mind jumping all over the place not landing on what is of importance? Are you acting out verbally? You can actually take control of this and not let Pluto take hold of you. Is Saturn, besieged Mars and Pluto soon transiting in your 10th house? Might you be undermining your career by indiscriminately overstepping authority figures or not fully owning your own power? Or are Saturn, Mars and Pluto stuck in your 4th house and you’ve sat back thinking home and family issues are ‘theirs’ to correct, and that you have no power to alter those problems that feel terminal?
World leaders use astrology to avoid missteps, shouldn’t you? If you don’t know where these transits are now in your chart, contact me for a personal reading or update and we can go over how best to utilize these powerful energies so that you are well-positioned, and not thrown, by this alignment, and similarly, ready for the arrival of the triple outer planet conjunction in 2020. Astrology’s best use is for timing and preparation for the times ahead, so take the advantage use it well.
Above Chart: Spring Ingress 2018 for Washington DC
The recent full moon was in Virgo following the last eclipse, and I have witnessed a lot of important shifts. I thought this cycle was worth a short recap. This eclipse cycle and full moon brought a lot of confusion followed by revelation; disappointment followed by new possibilities; illness followed by recovery and commitment to health, rejuvenation and release.
The symbolism behind the climax of this cycle on the Virgo full moon was felt more powerfully by many because of the substantial weight of planets in Pisces. The flow of energy quickly became dreamy, visionary, imaginative and intuitive following the eclipse in late Aquarius. This began as a stage to envision idealistic goals, and begin to paint them on the canvas of our vision boards and the universe. As mid-month approached however, the Virgo full moon shined a flood light on the details needing attending to in the manifestation of these dreams, and the realities involved in making them happen. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but may just have felt totally unexpected.
As a sage advisor once said, when you come to a fork in the road, and there are two possible paths or outcomes — one you have envisioned and one you have not; prepare for both. The idea behind this was not to give up your dreams for the sake of what seems like a hindrance or obstacle. Proceed following both roads: the more imaginative as well as the more realistic, and that way you will be prepared for either outcome, or possibly both.
The upcoming Spring Ingress chart, like the past Winter Ingress, has Neptune on an angle. This has added to the uncertainty in activities by the President and in the White House. We can’t be sure of exactly what has happened in any scandal, nor can we have certainty of how the President or his advisors and staff will proceed. Mars inhabits the 6th house of the military, and Saturn (obstacles) sits firmly on the Descendant (other countries/leaders). Both straddle the Descendant making it beseiged – a really bad situation where one is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Certainly all the nuclear talks are highlighted here. There has to be some give and take; we can’t ask other nations to disarm and then continue to occupy their borders. But as we do that, we exemplify the negative attributes of this alignment. Let’s hope as we pass through this period that right choices are made.

This is our 2nd full moon this month – thus a “blue” moon. Full moons and particularly full moon eclipses highlight relationships and the oppositional energy pits one view against another. High stress and water retention in the body and brain requires rest around these times. Try to avoid decisions and likewise beware of arguments as the full moon climaxes. Knowing the house/sector of your chart where the eclipse culminates is crucial to knowing where the energies will play out in your life.
This eclipse falls in the US chart’s 8th house of joint finances putting attention on our deals and deficiencies in this area. (See chart above) After years of outsourcing jobs to China, back in 2015 China and Russia took charge of their financial futures, and those of hundreds of other countries that joined them when they launched the AIIB (Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank). The trading has continued as the RMB (and bond) is backed by gold. Notice how much ‘gold’ is being flashed on major network TV, the photo op with Mnuchin at Fort Knox and during this lead up Bruno Mars had his “24 Karat” song. These are not accidents.. these visuals help the public easily accept the coming changes. Of course in the meantime, they manipulate the rise of precious metals so only the bankers and insiders will stock up before the imminent rise. The chart of the AIIB Articles of Agreement will have a powerful Jupiter station in March, so much of the organization’s operations are being ironed out expanded, and put into action. We will eventually be hearing more about financial cooperation between the US with other countries, and it is clear as China and Russia continue to move forward with their gold backed trading instruments, that the U.S. cannot fall too far behind in getting on the wagon. Otherwise we will lose trade advantages, as the dollar will continue to fall as interest rates rise. With the problems in the US with thousands of businesses closing stores across the country, we cannot afford to also lose the trade war.
Chiron also rises in the eclipse chart in Washington DC and squares the MC (President), so this can easily represent wounds to the President, including the fiction book that made news headlines this month having had an impact.
And now, a short note of caution on reading Sun sign columns, listening to generic astrology “predictions” that don’t reference specific charts, or astrologers that cite general transits without examining all angles of a situation, as giving a specific result. Here’s a personal anecdote. Over the holidays last year I had a fever and what I thought was the flu. Of course I don’t get vaccinated so considering studies show people who do get vaccinated easily spread the virus to others, I was more than a little annoyed to feel sick. A supposedly “certified” astrologer claimed I was paranoid! And if that weren’t crazy enough, that I would feel better when the moon made a trine (120 degree angle) to a planet in my chart. I was flabbergasted that a certified astrologer would make such a claim on a generic transit like a lunar angle that occurs twice every single month. Of course I knew this was ridiculous.. this particular ‘astrologer’ never looks at actual charts, he goes from memory often citing wrong data. Adding to the incorrect astrology, he said based on the house Mars was in, the illness would pass quickly. Not only is this ridiculous, how a certified astrologer cannot know that Mars is hot and not only rules fevers but surgery is just plain frightening. What might they tell an actual client? Any decent astrologer taking a quick look at my chart would have seen numerous other factors contributing to a more serious situation. Imagine if he had told a non-astrologer this will pass quickly, and they ignored symptoms of something more serious based on his casual “predictions”? Of course I had to laugh at how ridiculous everything this quasi astrologer had said (“Mars is strong, you should be fine soon.”) as I was wheeled into surgery, ruled by Mars, a few days later. But I am an astrologer and I knew this was chatty and unfounded nonsense.
On a similar note, and the reason for these anecdotes, clients often come to me citing hearing a planet such as Jupiter in their sign, and not understanding why everything wasn’t going great in their life. While Jupiter can bring expansion and opportunities, you must always see the whole chart, and speak to the person to see what is going on and how Jupiter may correlate with a positive learning experience and in what area. Sometimes a disappointment or a negative experience is a great learning tool and the result is expanded awareness yielding future benefits. Jupiter, a new moon or a “sextile” or “trine” doesn’t always mean peaches and cream – in fact to expect that without seeing all the other factors in a chart is just plain ignorant and will set you up for disappointment and bad decisions.
